students' first impressions

Sven:
My first impression of the USA
USA is like I thought before. The cars are really big, the streets are big and everything is bigger than in Germany. The food is often very unhealthy. It has too much sugar and fat. The biggest difference to our country is the school. Everyday they have the same lessens, only one break and the lessens are 60 minutes long. In the lessons we don't see yet what they have to do. Only the ten minutes in beginning. Crew is a very crazy lesson because the play in the out side or chat with other friends. In Germany it's difficult too follow the teacher what he want and do all your homework.   At the end I want to write one point which is very important. Americans are so nice. They are open, you can talk to them and they do not turn their eyes. We never get the feeling that something is wrong with us. That makes me feel so comfortable.

Impression  My first impressions in Prescott were: The most things here are not the same than in Germany. When I first come to America I saw that the people here are (as) differently as in Germany. They all are really friendly and they don’t afraid to talk. The nature is really nice. When I saw my host family I was happy, because they look really friendly. At fist it was difficult to  understand all, but with the time it would be better and better. Here you can eat a lot of fast food. In Germany you eat more vegetables. The school in Prescott is not so severe like in Germany. It starts at 8:10am and finish at 3:10pm. On Wednesday the day is shorter, the school finish at 1pm. They have every day the same lessons and only one break. Here in Prescott they all have to wear T-shirts or other different shirts from Northpoint. In Germany you can wear what you want. They can hear music, phone and play games in the lessons. In Germany it isn’t allowed. Almost every day a woman called and the students stand up, do their hand on their heart and speak a sentence, really interesting. In the school they are all really friendly. When I went to Prescott with my host family and see this all old houses it was like a movie so exciting. The most interesting animals here are the alpacas.

Caroline:

After my first day at northpoint I was really confused because the school was a lot different from my german school. First we had art and we had to draw guns. In germany we would never do this. After that we had science. Science was pretty difficult to understand because the studens have to use words, which you won't need ever and had never heard of before. After I met my german group we had crew. During crew I felt like I was in kindergarden again. We played a game called "all my neighbors" you have to say things like : All my neighbors wear Jeans. And then everyone, who wears a Jeans has to change His seat. Math was like in 7th grade but only at the first day. It became harder the next days. Last lesson was Language Arts. I don't really get what kind of subject this should be. All in all most american students are friendly and I'm looking forward to learn more about Northpint.         Caroline Gross

My first impressions at the Northpoint Expeditionary Learning Academy
Monday – My first day in an American school. Every day I have the same classes and my first in art. I thought that we will paint trees or houses. Wrong! We painted guns! All kinds of guns!
My next impression was that the American students learn in a different speed. They have 7 hours of school a day, but they work at most the half of the time. Except in class science. There they watch movies. And in the higher grades they do more work.
One of the other classes is crew. A new class for me and I think these class is not very important. There all students sit together in a circle and play games. It’s a bit like in the primary school. Or they go out and play a game called war. They paint guns and play war? Strange!!
My last impression was the following:
All students sat in the classroom. Suddenly a voice came from somewhere. All people stood up, looked to the American flag, put their hands over their heart and recite something to be proud of America. They do that every day.
But all in all the school is very nice J
